Black Tie Fashions

When you are invited to a party or wedding that is labeled as black tie, that is not a suggestion it is a statement indicating that there is a dress code requirement that will need to be met if you want to be allowed into the gathering. Therefore, you need to know how to dress. There is nothing worse than showing up to an event and not being allowed in because you are not properly dressed, or worse, being allowed in and having everyone stare at you the entire evening. No matter what your budget or what your style there are appropriate black tie options for you.

First, black tie does not mean that you have to wear black, although black is always an elegant and appropriate color. Black tie generally means that men are required to wear sports jackets and ties and ladies are expected to wear dresses. The rules extend that shorts, skirts, sandals, and tank-tops areĀ inappropriate, therefore, do not wear them.

For many gathering a cocktail dress is acceptable, but you might want to check with someone to see exactly what the dress code is. It is always better be over dressed than under dressed. So it is advisable to wear a floor length gown. In many cases it is more appropriate to wear colors that are more demure. Colors like blacks, mauves, and blushes, colors that are more sophisticated. Bright colors are will appear childish and might stand out.

For ladies, heels are a must. If you do not like to wear heels then you should opt for a kitten heel to wear. Make sure that you are not wearing sandals. You heels should be formal and look appropriate with your outfit. It would be ok to wear a more fashion forward heel with your outfit especially if you are wearing a cocktail dress.
